6th Grade Assistant Principal
Jerrelle Griffin comes to Benjamin Syms Middle School from Jones Magnet Middle School where she's been an assistant principal since August 2012. Mrs. Griffin previously served as a learning facilitator at the Performance Learning Center in Alternative Education with Hampton City Schools. She began her career as a science teacher at Denbigh High School and later at Warwick High School in Newport News.
Mrs. Griffin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology from Hampton University and a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Regent University.
She enjoys spending time with her husband and three sons. Her other interests include organizing events with her local church and sorority, reading, shopping, and participating in group exercise sessions.
7th Grade Assistant Principal
Born and raised in Hampton, VA, Mr. Barkley is a product of Hampton City Schools. He attended Robert E. Lee Elementary School, Lindsay Middle School, and Hampton High School. After graduating from Hampton, he attended the College of William & Mary where he earned a bachelor’s degree in History. Mr. Barkley also holds a Masters in Educational Leadership from The George Washington University.
Mr. Barkley taught History at Hampton High School for ten years. He previously served two years as an Assistant Principal at Andrews Pre-K-8 School.
8th Grade Assistant Principal
Patricia Cuffee-Neville comes to Benjamin Syms Middle School as a former SPED Coordinator with Hampton City Schools. Mrs. Cuffee-Neville previously served as a high school assistant principal with Charles County Public Schools in the state of Maryland. She began her career as a high school English teacher and then taught students with emotional disturbance for seven years before moving into school administration. This year marks her 24th in the field of education.
Mrs. Cuffee-Neville holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education from Clemson University and a Master of Human Growth and Development degree from George Washington University.
Mrs. Cuffee-Neville loves spending time with her two sons, ages 17 and 9. She enjoys watching and playing various sports, especially competitive coed softball.
